About Hans Bogislaus Carstens
Please see Genealogia Carstensiana.
Hans Bogislaus Carstens was a merchant in Lübeck, Germany.
He is the ancestor of the Finnish (and Estonian and Swedish) branches of the family Carstens via his son Friedrich (Frederik) and of the Danish branch of the family Carstens via his son Christian.
His son Christian Carstens, born in Lübeck, Germany, moved to Denmark, and become the mayor of Tønder, probably around 1566, making him the ancestor of the Danish branch of the family Carstens.
His brother Frederik, on the other hand, is the ancestor of the Finnish branch of the family, or perhaps rather his son Henrik Carstens who also became a Mayor - the first Mayor of Helsinki.
There is something about becoming a mayor. At least at the time. I know of other families, in Finland related to the family Carstens, where the title was passed from a father to the son.
Mapping the Finnish branch of the family has started to gain some momentum, but the connection to Denmark remains vague, and should be better established. Let alone the rest of the world.
Please see two family trees on the family Carstens from Släktbok (in Swedish) or Suomen aatelittomia sukuja in Finnish. The family trees can be downloaded from the links above. Just click the links.
