About Geneviève De Trépagny (Drouin)

Genevieve Drouin, the daughter of Robert Drouin, born in 1606 in the parish of Pin, Chatellany of Montagne in Perche, France and Anne Cloutier, born in Canada the daughter of Zacarie Cloutier and Sincte Dupont. It seems Geneveive, born and baptized in Quebec, was barely twelve years old, had been promised to Romain D'Estrepagny on 24 of April 1656 in Beauport, parish of Notre Dame Quebec. From this marriage of Romain DeTrépagny to Genevieve Drouin were born 10 children, six sons; (a) François, baptized at Chateau-Richer on April 7, 1664, who died August 24, 1738, married Anne le François, February 14, 1689; (b) Jacques, baptized at Chateau-Richer July 3, 1685, died August 11, 1706, married in St. Pierre I. O., Anne Raté, February 20, 1691; (c) Charles de Trépagny, baptized in 1659, married on January 29, 1686, in Quebec, Marguerite Jacquereau, and died December 2, 1703; and (d) Claude, born in Canada, probably at Chateau-Richer, who came to Louisiana and became the founder of the Trépagnier family in that colony; (e) Jean born in Quebec in 1674 and Claude belonged to the Contingent that the Montrealer, Pierre LeMoyne D'Iberville led to Hudson Bay in order to rout the English. They boarded a ship with him for Rochefort, where I'Berville was commissioned to sail to Louisianna. Unfortunately, Jean died at sea between Cuba and Biloxi, 31 Dec. 1699. Another son (f), Louis died at the age of twenty in Quebec unmarried. Four daughters of Romain De'Trepagny and Genevieve Drouin, founded families: Genevieve with Guillaume Guillot in 1676; Marie Madeline with Henri Larchheveque in 1678; Anne with Jacques Jahan in 1686; Barbe with Thomas Dayon in 1692 and ensured the continuity of the Trépanier line in North America.

In th Quebec census of 1681 Romain and Genevieve were well established as a farmers, cultivating 14 acres of land and cattle. In Quebec, Romain was called to present himself twenty times before the High Consul, Supreme Authority, in the country in this period. Several other times to see the "Bishop Laval", the highest religious order in the colony.

Robert Drouin and Anne Cloutier married in Canada, their marriage contract being signed in the Seigneurie of Beauport, parish of Notre Dame de la Misericorde, on July 27, 1636. This contract, which is still preserved in the archives of the Seminary of Quebec, was the first marriage contract drawn up in Nouvelle France, or Canada.
