Biography

Garrett Minor, son of Doodes Minor (d. 1695) and Elizabeth Montgue, was born before 13 Apr 1679 in Christ Church Parish, Middlesex County, Virginia and died there on 2 Feb 1721 at age 41.

He was a Justice of the Peace for Middlesex County.

He married on 17 Oct 1706 to Diane Vivion (bef 1690-16 April 1718) at Christ Church Parish, Middlesex, Virginia. She was the daughter of John Vivion and Margaret Smith.

  • Will of Garrett Minor of Christ Church Parrish in Middlesex County, dated 27 Dec. 1720.
  • Unto my beloved son John Minor all my land.
  • Unto my beloved daughter Diana Ellinor two Negro children Margret and Ben.
  • All the rest of my estate be equally divided between my said son and daughter.
  • My said daughter shall have the use of one of the chambers of my dwelling house with a fire place. My son shall find land and houseing sufficient for my daughter to work her Negroes and other servants on until she shall be maried.
  • My estate shall be inventoried and appraised and the increase and profits thereof bestowed toward the maintainance and schooling of my son and daughter and towards the finishing my dwelling house.
  • My son shall be of age at nineteen years. My daughter shall be of age at eighteen years.
  • Mr. John Vivion and Mr. Thomas Mountague Senr., Mr. Thomas Vivion together with my loveing son John Minor executors. My executors shal not be obliged to give security.
