About Güttl Kohn-Zerkowitz

GUTTL [GUTL], aka JUDITH, wife of Michael Kohn-Zerkowitz, was b. in 1753. It is a possibility, although unproven, that she and her husband may have been this couple: “Michl [no second name, no surname] and Gütl [no second name], m. in Jungbunzlau, Bohemia, 20 Mar 1777.” However, it is far likelier that she was his first cousin, Güttl, daughter of Joachim and Sibilia (Kohn-Zerkowitz) Kinspurg. As of August 2024, research as to her identity is ongoing. [*Note: her maiden name was NOT Deutsch.]

Güttl Zerkowitz moved with her husband to Leipnik and survived him by 17 years, dying there on 8 Sep 1839, age 86 yrs. Her Leipnik death record: “Gütl Zerkowitz, age 86 yrs., widow, d. Leipnik, household #29, 8 Sep 1839.” A document dated 1827 names her eldest son as Juda Lobel Zerkowitz. An earlier document, dated 10 Aug 1823, names four other of her children: “Dawid Zerkowitz, Cilla Siebenschein, and Nanetta Schik”. Not named are her daughter Rebeka Tauber and her youngest son Markus Zerkowitz.
