About Filmer Green

U.S. Southern Colonies Project logo
Filmer Green was a Virginia colonist.

This profile is part of the Green Name Study.
Filmer Green is mentioned as one of the two older sons of Thomas Green and Martha Elizabeth Filmer (date 1662 assigned) in Amelia, Virginia Colony . He married Mary Walker [1] [2]

He had at least 7 children born in Lunenburg Co., Virginia. [3] He apparently married Abigail Griffin after Mary died and had several more children, the first named Mary as was the custom to memorialize the dec'd wife. {see under Abigail} [4]

Some family histories have other parents for Mary Green, but the dates in these histories make no sense. Filmer is sometimes listed as Henry Filmer Green.

Comment from https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Green-4127

“Name is Filmer GREEN, not Henry FILMER GREEN. His son Henry Filmer GREEN was referred to once in a legal document as Jr. and that caused the erroneous presumption that Filmer was a Henry. There is NOTHING that indicates Filmer was a Henry.”
