About Emma Pauline Meyer
An aged member of Trinity Lutheran Church departed this last Saturday, September 14, 1935 at about 5:30 PM near Kenesaw, Nebraska. Grandmother Emma (Hano) Meyer had been staying with her younges daughter, Mrs. Martin Finningsmier for the las several years. She died at the home of another daughter, Mrs A;bert Zievart, where sh had gone to visit for a short time.
Grandmother Emma Meyer, nee hanow, a teacher's daughter, was born Feb 28 1847 at neudorf in the Province Posen, Germany. In this village she was Baptized and attended school. She was confirmed at SchoenLanke.
In 1867 Emma emigrated to the United States tp ;ove with relatives at Baltimore, Maryland. From there she went to Varna, Illinois. Here she was married to Edward Meyer in 1871.
In 1884, Emma with her husband and family came to Nebraska to live one mile north of Blue Hill, Nebraska. She lived in this vicinity, excpt for the las two years, whe she stayed with her daughter at Kenesaw, Nebraska.
In 1891 her husband preceded her in death.
Her death is morned by her children: William Meyer of Blue Hill, Mrs. Albert Ulrich of Big Springs, Albert Meyer of Blue Hill, Mrs Olga Ziebarth of Kenesaw, Edward Meyer, Jr. of Blue HIll and Emma Finningsmier of Kenesaw. Thirty grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren.
Mrs. Meyer has been a member of our church from the beginning since two years after it organization. We all knew her as a fine Christian lady, and a mother who had the eternal welfare of her children at heart.
In her diary she wrote: "The Lord has led me by his Hand offtern through dark ways. He will not forget me. Thanks be to Him."
On several occasions, physicians had despaired of her life. However, the Lord prolonged the same, till she reached the ripe old age of 88 years, 6 months and 16 days.
After a brief illness and having received the Lord's body and Blood in the sacramentsm shotly before her death, she calmly fell asleep in Jesus las Saturday.
Her funeral service was held Wednesday, September 18, 1935 at 1:30 PM at the home of Mr & Mrs Edward Meyer and at 2:00 PM a double service was held at Trinity Lutheran Church attended by a large concourse of relatives and friends. Reberend H E Ramelow of Kenesaw, Nebraska who cared for her spiritually in the last years, preaching the German Sermon. His text was Psalm 73.24: :Thou shalt guide me with the counsel and afterwards recieve me to Glory." An octette sang "Haven of Rest." The pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church preached the English sermon. This text was 1 John 2:25; "This is the promise which He3 hath promised us, even eternal life." A double duet sang "Asleep in Jesus" with organ accompniment.
Emma now is resting beside her husband, wh had gone berore her 44 years ago.
May her frequent prayer also be ours; "My God, for Jesus' sake, I pray Thy peace may bless my dying day."
