Family

Elizabeth married Richard Harvey, of Bryan County, GA. The date and location of their marriage is unknown. All the children listed to them are due to the 1827 indenture signed by Elizabeth Harvey (died after 1840) and 6 children or their spouses. The children attributed to Richard and Elizabeth and found on different documents are:

The 1827 indenture:

1) John Harvey (John M. Harvey married Mary Ann Alexander and Judith Futch)
2) Hiram Waller (Nancy married Hiram Waller.)
3) William Williams (Sarah died Baker, Florida. She married William Andrew Williams)
4) Richard Harvey, Jr. (Richard Thomas married Cynthia Burnside)
5) Emanuel Harvey (Emanuel married Mahaley)
6) Isaac Harvey (Isaac married Elizabeth Burnside)

In 1852-1853 an estate was probated in Marianna, Jackson County, Florida by John Davis [John Timothy Davis, Sr. Esq.] for his mother Rebecca Davis DeVaughn and his grandmother, ( Elizabeth Unknown Harvey). In the court documents, John Davis documented that Elizabeth died in Florida in about 1835. The following heirs of Elizabeth Harvey are listed in the 1852 document:

7) Rebecca (Harvey) Davis DeVaughn [Rebecca Davis DeVaughn], (Rebecca b. about 1782-83 m. 1st John Walter Davis then 2nd Devaun or DeVaughn)

8) William Harvey, "still living in the State of Georgia" [William Harvey] (William Harvey m. Nancy)

9) Susan Bragg [Susannah (Harvey) McElveen Burnside Bragg], (Susannah "Susan" m. 1st William Emanuel McElveen, 2nd Edmund Burnside and 3rd William Bragg.)

10) Martha [Elizabeth Martha Sheffield (Harvey)] intermarried with John Sheffield, (Martha married John Sheffield. John M: died Baker, Florida)

11) Polly m. James Martin.

Before 13 Feb 1817 a Will was written by Emanuel Harvey (see his profile for additional details) in Bryan County, Georgia, naming the following Children:

  1. Nancy Martin, (needs research if name Nancy and or Mary, also see Polly (Mary) listed under Florida probate record above and husband’s name below)
  2. William Harvey, (see Florida probate record above)
  3. Elizabeth Sheffield, (needs research if name Elizabeth and or Martha, also see Martha listed under Florida probate above and husband’s name below)
  4. Rebecca Davis, (see Florida probate record above) and
  5. Susannah McElvene. (see Florida probate record above)

In addition, James Martin (also see above) and John Sheffield (also see above) were named in the Will.

The following 2 children were not listed in any of the documents:

There was an estate probated in Jackson County, Florida and a Will written in Bryan County Georgia that suggests 5 children attributed to Richard and Elizabeth may be the children of Emanuel and Elizabeth Unknown Harvey (died 1835 in Florida). Two children (Elizabeth and Lemuel) attributed to Elizabeth and Richard Harvey were left off both documents and need additional research.

Elizabeth and her husband Richard are buried in Lower Black Creek Cemetery. There are no grave stones or markers found in the cemetery for them. Lower Black Creek church was constituted in 1839 (after their deaths) and is part of the Lotts Creek Association. It is not known when the cemetery was started. The oldest grave I found was a burial from 1852. Elizabeth's will was probated in Jackson County, Florida. In the probate documents, it is documented that Elizabeth died in 1835.

Elizabeth Morell was [not] born to John Morell (this is NOT the John Morel family of Bryan and Chatham Counties in Georgia) in Albermarle County, Virginia in about 1761. She married Richard Harvey born about 1759.

In the 1830 Jackson County Florida federal census for Walter Davis (married Rebecca Harvey) a woman 70-80 years old is listed as living in the home. This may be Elizabeth Harvey, mother of Walters wife, Rebecca. If so, this would indicate Elizabeth came to Florida to live with her daughter in the years following the death of her husband Richard. This would help narrow the search of her grave to Jackson County Florida. In 1852-1853 a will was probated in Marianna, Jackson County, Florida by John Davis for the estates of his mother Rebecca Harvey Davis DeVaughn and his grandmother, Elizabeth Harvey. In the court documents, John Davis documented that Elizabeth died in Florida in about 1835. There were also notes about Elizabeth not wanting the children of her slaves to be separated from their mother named Cherry. No documentation was found in the court records of her burial site. The following heirs of Elizabeth Harvey are listed in the 1852 document:

- William Harvey, living in the State of Georgia. - Susan Bragg. - Martha, who intermarried with John Sheffield. - Polly (Mary), who intermarried with James Martin.

These documents can be found in the Jackson County, Florida Florida Wills and Estate Index and Probate Record book C pages, 44-49 (lists heirs noted above), 110-111, and 152-153.

DNA

Many genealogies have given Morel as Elizabeth's family name for decades. Genealogies have assumed this to be a surname when perhaps it was meant to be an ethnicity: See Haplogroup - H1-C16239T

PAUL SORENSEN

My first notice of Paul was in ftDNA
He matched H1-C16239T with 0 distance

There was a strong autosomal connection, though no connection through our trees.

Following his matriarchal lineage in Wikitree to Anna Persdotter b. 6 Jan 1837 in Lundby Grebo Sweden. Her daughter Wilhelmina Franzdotter immigrated to Illinois. file:///C:/Users/amand/Downloads/topola.pdf

As my matriarchal ancestor Elizabeth settled in Georgia and was a southern colonist in the mid 18th century, our shared ancestor was most probably Swedish. Paul's ancestor was not a Harvey. A comparison in Wikitree between us shows no Relationship.

This says that he comes down through Elizabeth. A solid chance she was Scandinavian. His genetics are probably only hers.=

Your Origin

H1 is the most common branch of haplogroup H. It most likely originated 15-20,000 years ago and represents 30% of people in haplogroup H and 46% of the maternal lineages in Iberia. It can also be found at significant frequency in the Near East and some Middle Eastern populations. 13-14% of all Europeans belong to this branch.
