About Eleanor Merrick

Ellen/Eleanor Kellet was born about 1665 in Cartmel, Lancashire, England. Her parents are unknown.

In 1688 she married widower John Smith, a Quaker, in Chaigley, Lancashire. Over the next 9 years they had five children.

In 1699, the Smith family including children from the first marriage sailed on the Britannia from Liverpool to Philadelphia in 1699. Over half of the passengers died on the ship or after landing, including John Smith and several children.

In 1702 Ellen married John Merrick. Ellen and John had four children, John, Mary, Hannah and Elizabeth over the next seven years. Ellen died about 1711.
