Edward Gorges b. abt 1536 and died 20 Aug 1567 in Clerkenwell, Middlesex, England. [1]

parents: Edmund Gorges (1526-1558) and Ann Walsh.

Married:

1. Cecily Lygon, daughter of William Lygon, Esq. (?-1567) and Eleanor Dennes. She married John Vivian after the death of Edward Gorges.

1. Edward Gorges of Charlton (1564-1624) m. Dorothy Speke.
2. Ferdinando Gorges (ca. 1565-1647) m. Ann Bell.

[1] Like his father, Edmund, Edward Gorges took no part in the public affairs of his time; indeed, his brief life hardly afforded scope for the beginning of any marked career, as he died at the age of thirty one years. His death took place at Clerkenwell, in the suburbs of London, August 29th, 1568, and he was buried there in the parish church of St. James. He left two young children, Edward481 and Ferdinando Gorges (19), the latter of whom has attained celebrity largely on account of his efforts in establishing colonies in New England; indeed, he has been termed the " Father of American Colonization."
