About Edgar Warner

Edgar was born Edgar Crossland to William Crossland and Sophia Elizabeth Crossland in Newton, Iowa.

On May 3, 1900, Edgar's father William Crossland died, leaving Edgar and his 4 siblings between the ages of 6 and 16 without a mother or father. Two of the children's paternal aunts took care of the children. Edgar and his sister Ruby Warner were adopted by their paternal Aunt Alice Margaret Warner and her husband George F Warner, resulting in Edgar Crossland's name changing to Edgar Crossland Warner where he used his former surname Crossland as a middle name. They are listed as living in Bowen, Illinois the following month in the 1900 Federal Census. Their other paternal Aunt Dr. Emma Crossland took care of the other three children Harry V Crossland, Arlo Bert Crossland, and Pearl Crossland and they were listed as living in Baxter, Iowa the following month in the 1900 Federal Census.

In 1907, Edgar graduated from Mendon High School where he was a schoolmate with his future wife Alice. (The Quincy Daily Journal, Thursday, May 10, 1917; Page: 10)

Edgar married Alice May Rowbotham on May 8, 1917 at the Rowbotham home in Mendon, Illinois. (The Quincy Daily Journal, Thursday, May 10, 1917; Page: 10)

At the time of Edgar's marriage to Alice he was employed by Sears, Roebuck & Company in the express shipping department. (The Quincy Daily Journal, Thursday, May 10, 1917; Page: 10)
