Edgar Wilson Shawano (Shawanoo) is # 674 on the 1907 Wooster Roll where he is identified as the son of Mrs. Amanda Shawano # 670. Edgar's father, Cornelius Shawanoo, is not named on the 1907 Wooster Roll but appears with his wife and children in the 1911 Canada census for Kettle Point.

Edgar's traditional name is recorded by Wooster as "Wigwassibikwe" meaning "Grindstone" but that is an inaccurate translation since the name is a female form (which never would be a boy's name) and since the Anishinaabemowin word for Grindstone is "Jiwanabik" (Baraga 1878:121), not "Wigwassibikwe". The standard word in Anishinaabemowin for "birchbark" is "Wigwass" (Baraga 1878:28) and the standard word for "river" is "sibi" (Baraga 1878:214). Wigwassibikwe actually means "Birchbark river woman", the approximate translation for Lottie Ellen Shawanago's traditional name, not her brother Edgar's traditional name. WOOSTER HAS MIXED UP THE TRANSLATIONS FOR THE TRADITIONAL NAMES OF AMANDA SHAWANO'S CHIDREN. The traditional names for all of Amanda's children and their meanings require scrutiny and comment by those with expertise in nuances of the Anishinaabemowin language and Potawatomi culture. More research is required on Wooster's reported names for this family before the incorrect information is copied elsewhere.
