About Don Juan R. Mariño
Don Juan Ramon Mariño - the philanthropist, belongs to the Mariño-Sauza- Berenguer Family (paternal) and Marasigan- Villavicencio-Diokno Family (maternal side).
He was reared single handedly by her mother Doña Greogoria Gertrudes V Diokno - Mariño but greatly influenced and shaped into a great man by his uncle Don Ricardo Mariño.
He grew up in the vast lands of the Marasigan-Escudero family in now called Villa Escudero as Doña Gregoria Gertrudes, his mother became widow at a young age and the family was sheltered under the protective wings of Doña Claudia Marasigan m to Don Placido Escudero.
Don JRM was assisted by his granduncle Don Santiago Sauza and grand aunt Doña Ysabel Berenguer de Marquina Sauza in his first travel to Mexico and Spain. He became a good businessman and gained great wealth. He was involved in the laying of the first rail tracks in the Manila-Dagupan Ferrocaril line in 1891 until the colonial train had its first commercial run
As we all know, with power and wealth come great responsibility And he didn't waste his wealth as he then embarked on many philanthropic works like building the church of Lobo, Batangas the watchtower "Parola" ng Lobo, which is so picturesque until now and being used in pre-wedding photoshoots. He sent many children to school - Holy Spirit and Letran. and helped his cousin Gen Ananias Diokno financially in his heroic revolt against the Spanish government.
The family is now planning on creating a JRM Philanthropy Award that will be given to families/persons serving the world with open heart.
