Feb 11, 2009 > Missing a good source to confirm parent connection of Dominique Pothier
Note
Dominique Potier was not in the census of 1752. He was probably at Beaubassin with his father & mother, along with Surette, Bourque, Babin, & others who escaped deportation by hiding in the woods.
In 1755 Dominique was taken prisoner during the capture of Fort Beausejour. He was among the 84 Acadians who escaped during a stormy nigh . They dug their way out with their pocket knives and escaped to Bouctouche, NB.
Dominique Pothier was not deported, but was a prisoner at Port Royal and escaped by digging his way out to freedom with a knife in 1767. He settled at St. Anne du Ruisseau.
Dominique Pothier and his family escaped the Deportation by taking refuge at Cocagne and then at Bouctouche, NS. Charles-Amand was born there (1758).
Among those Acadians who surrendered to Commander Frye, at Fort Beausejour,(Fort Cumberland?) in the spring of 1760 & took an Oath of Allegiance to the British Crown was Dominique Pothier who with Surette, Bourque, Babin & others came from Chessetcook, near Halifax. In 1775 he was granted a parcel of land at Sainte-Anne-du-Ruisseau, where he settled and became the ancestor of the Pothiers of Yarmouth Co. Charles-Amand and Sylvain followed a few years later.
