MEMORIAL PHOTOS 4 FLOWERS 1 Dewitt's parents were Jessie Ester and Artie Louise Berry Shivers. He was one of five children.

Dewitt attended shcool in Strong, completing the ninth grade, and then joined the Navy. After leaving the military, Dewitt worked for Arkansas Power and Light Company as a lineman.

While working in Brinkley, he met the love of his life, Glenda Ruth Vanderburg. They were married on May 16, 1952 at the Strong First Baptist Church and moved to Harrison to make their home.

"Shakey", as he was known by his friends in Harrison, worked for AP&L for thirty-two years, retiring in 1983.

Dewitt and Glenda Ruth moved to Hunter that same year, and he worked for the Hav Heusen Shirt Factory for the next ten years. After leaving the shirt factory, he mowed lawns and sometimes drove tractors for local farmers.

A born again Christian, Dewitt was a former member of First Baptist, Harrison, and later became a member of Hunter Baptist Church.

Dewitt loved gospel music, working word search puzzles, fishing and hunting, laughing and telling jokes with his family and friends. Most of all, he loved listening and watching his grandchildren. He was a great supporter of his son-in-law's gospel group "Unashamed" and gave away many of their CDs, along with CDs that featured his daughter and son-in-law.

He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend who touched the lives of all who loved and knew him.
