GEDCOM Note
Dowd. "Descendants of Henry Doude Who Came from England in 1639." page 19 "Cornelius, II seems to have been migratory in his nature, he early moved to Goshen, then Norfork, Connecticut. Afterward he moved to Tyringham, or Monterey, Mass. It is recorded of him that he bought 600 acres of land for three beaver hats. Not satisfied with his landed possessions he bought another tract for the price of a colt. He was probably the first of the Doudes that located in Berkshire County, Mass. Although all of that name now residents of that county are not his descendants, other families of the original Henry, from East Guilford (Madison), joining them and locating there, yet most of them can claim him as their ancestor. From his migratory character, it has been difficult to reach satisfactory results. "Thankful" is found in the church records of Monterey, but whether his sister or his daughter is not known. His daughter Thankful supposedly had 18 children but only one reached maturity. Cornelius was a twin to Jeremiah."
Guilford CT town records do not support the contention the Cornelius was a twin. Entries for other families are marked "twins" but nor for Cornelius and Jane Doude. As the birthdates of Cornelius, who was born in Feb. and Jeremiah, who was born in April, appear to be in the same year, I suspect it is a Julian - Georgian calendar problem.
