About Col. David Condict

Note: His surname was Condict, not Condit, as per NJ Archives, and his will. The monument shown is a new monument, not his original headstone, and it is a marker that altered and re-spelled his surname as Condit. His surname of Condict is further shown in the NJ Archives, here: http://njahgp.genealogyvillage.com/death-records-from-an-okd-diary-... where he and his father Samuel Condict, and brother, Samuel Condict are forever memorialized in the Jemima Condict Revolutionary War diary.*

American patriot and Revolutionary War officer Col. David Condit (a.k.a. Conduit) died during the third year of the war. He was 43 at the time, and the triumph of the cause he fought for was still several years away. His name is inscribed on the granite memorial erected by the Condit Family Association to honor their soldier-ancestors who lie buried in this churchyard, but his individual grave is elsewhere in the burial ground. Extract from "The Ancestry of the Condit Family in America", (author and date unknown): "He entered his countrys (sic) service in the War of the Revolution as a member of the Second Regiment, State Militia; promoted to Major, 1776, and for gallentry (sic) was made Lieutenant-Colonel, 1777, April 15; died April 24, 1777, aged 43. Thus early were his children left fatherless, and the country bereft of the services of a true patriot, soldier and citizen."
