About Captain Edward Jackson

A Patriot of the American Revolution for SOUTH CAROLINA  with the rank of Private. DAR Ancestor #   A060959



Private Edward Jackson enlisted in1775 in the Chesterfield District of South Carolina as a militiaman under Capt. Griffith, attached to Col. Benton, Charger Hills, SC & in 1776, under Capt Lloyd. He fought in the battle of Coosahatchie on May 11-13, 1779. which was between forces of the British General Prevost, of FL (14th Colony) & American Colonel John Laurens. Half of the Continental soldiers were killed. He also fought in Charleston, SC under General Moultrie. In 1790, he resided in St. Thomas, Cheraws County.. He received a land bounty of Muscogee County, GA in 1827 and received a pension of $30 a year (effective 3/4/1831). He resided in Gwinnett County, GA in 1832. He was married 3 times and may have had as many as 22 kids total. In October of 1914, a fire at his Gwinnett County, GA house destroyed records and photographs.

Edward was a Revolutionary War Soldier and some descendants have already filed to be a member of the SAR or the DAR (Sons/Daughters of the American Revolution) His numer 61526 – pension claim W2119, Pension roll 1830 recorded w/ DAR- Lafayette, GA. A marker for Capt Edward Jackson was erected in 1939
