”My own tree, researched in the 1920’s by my great aunt, looked solid for 12 generations, but only 7 are real. My first American ancestor was Samuel Henderson b. 1713. He is attached by everyone to William Henderson and Margaret Bruce, but that is a false connection. William and Margaret are real, but they didn’t have the sons who came to America. The reality seems to be that he was born in Ulster, though no records have been found for it. The DNA suggests he was from a line of lowland farmers who were part of the Ulster Plantation after leaving Scotland in the 1600’s. These people left no real records behind. ...”

There is no uncertainty in the birth record for Capt. William Henderson, of Fordell. However, there were multiple William Henderson and Margaret Bruces born in Scotland in this period. Therefore, it is not clear that this William was the father of Ens. John Henderson, Lt. James Henderson, William Henderson and Samuel Anderson, of Augusta County.
