Captain John Fox of St. Dunstan was born about 1626 in Buckinghamshire, London, England and died on 16 Apr 1682 in Adner, Gloucester County, Virginia.

Notes:

• John immigrated to America in 1663 or 1664/65 and went to New Kent, Virginia, where a land grant of 1000 acres had been given him by Charles II on September 20, 1661, adj. John Lewis (Mary Jane a descendant). He immigrated with Margaret Thomas, his 2nd wife, & his children by Anne.
• Captain John Fox commanded the "William and John." It sailed in April 1659 from England to Virginia. The restoration of the Stuarts (Charles II) to the throne of England was celebrated in Virginia on 20 October 1660 on proclamation of the Governor. The William and John was then in port in Virginia and its commander, Captain John Fox, participated in the occasion. "The York County Levy, October 1660, included a sum to pay Captain Fox for six cases of drams and for 'firing his big guns.'"

5. JOHN (b. ca. 1626; d. in 1682/3). He was the son of the John Fox, Sr., and the cousin of Alexander Comber (alias Conver), as mentioned in item 4. (3) above; and he was the brother of Stephen Fox, as mentioned in item 4, (9)c. above. The following is believed of him:

(l ) He was associated with other members of his family in merchant- trader operations, as is evidenced by the letter mentioned in item 4. (9)c. above.

(2) He was the Captain John Fox who was Commander of the "William and John". Early'in the month of April 1659 he sailed from England to Virginia, taking with him the order written by his father, as mentioned in item 4.(7 ) above, and the following described order issued by the High Court of Admiralty in England. (3) Early in the month of June 1659 the "William and John" sailed from Virginia on a return voyage to England, with Captain John Fox as Commander of the vessel.

(5) He was the Captain John Fox, Mariner, who on 2 April 1661 married Margaret Thomas in St. Dunstan's Church, Stepney Parish, County Middlesex, England. This evidently was his second marriage.

(6) He was the John Fox to whom, together with Thomas Lester and Gilbert Thornbrough, King Charles II himself, in the second year of his reign, gave a grant of land'in Virginia ...

(7) He, as Captain John Fox, Mariner, doubtless was still Commander of the "William and John" at the time of his marriage to Margaret Thomas on 2 April 1661. From item 4.(9)c. above it is evident that he soon thereafter relinquished his sea-faring duties connected with the family merchant-trader operations to his brother Stephen Fox and devoted his own time to business affairs in London and/or its environs. The last known record of him in London shows that on 20 October 1663 he was granted administration of the estate of his said brother.

Captain John Fox commanded the "William and John." It sailed in April 1659 from England to Virginia.
