American Civil War Union Army Sergeant Major and recipient to the highest military decoration for valor in combat — the Medal of Honor — for having distinguished himself at the Battle of the Wilderness, Virginia on May 6, 1864, and the Battle of the Crater, Petersburg, Virginia on July 30, 1864.

The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Sergeant Major Abraham Cohn, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 6 May 1864, while serving with 6th New Hampshire Infantry. During Battle of the Wilderness Sergeant Major Cohn rallied and formed, under heavy fire, disorganized and fleeing troops of different regiments. At Petersburg, Virginia, 30 July 1864, he bravely and coolly carried orders to the advanced line under severe fire.
