Disambiguation
Some online trees show, without evidence, Elizabeth Robinson as the second wife of Henry Beste and the mother of Bridget Beste. There is no record of this marriage or of her existence. The first mention of the wife of Henry Best dying is 27 July 1622,[8] long after Grace was born. Yorkshire records did not provide the name of the mother on any birth records. However, Bridget did name a daughter Grace, which fits with the naming patterns of the time.
Biography
Briggit Best, daughter of Henry Best was christened on 9 April 1592, in Ovenden, Yorkshire, England.[1] [2] As was the custom at the time, her mother's name was not listed in the baptism record, but Henry Best was married to Grace Boithes in Halifax Parish in 1577.[3]
Marriage
Bridget Best was married to Abraham Shaw on 24 June 1616 in Halifax, Yorkshire, England.[4][5]
Emigration and Settlement in New England
Abraham and Bridget Shaw and children emigrated to America in 1636 on the Anne. At first they settled in Watertown, Massachusetts. Their house burned down in October 1636 and they moved to Dedham, Massachusetts.
Death
Abraham Shaw's undated will does not mention a wife,[6] so she is assumed to have died in Dedham, Massachusetts, before 1638, when Abraham's estate was inventoried.
