About Blackbeard

Edward Teach (c. 1680 – 22 November 1718), better known as Blackbeard, was a notorious English pirate who operated around the West Indies and the eastern coast of the American colonies during the early 18th century.

He used Swedish guns on board Queen Anne's Revenge. Three of these guns have been identified as 6-pounder iron cannons manufactured at Ehrendals works in Södermanland, Sweden in 1713 . Produced by Jesper Eliæson Ehrencreutz Pictures of the Swedish and also English Cannon's can be found at the project page of https://www.qaronline.org.

Governor Alexander Spotswood , Williamsburg, Virginia, dispatched the fleet of British war ships which led to the fierce battle causing the death of Blackbeard and several of his crew. Several other crew members were captured, taken to Williamsburg, put on trial, and hanged on the outskirts of Williamsburg. It is said Blackbeards massive skull was later made into a drinking vessel and used by patrons of the Raleigh Tavern in Williamsburg. Over the centuries there have been numerous reports by citizens hearing sounds on still nights of cart wheels creaking over rutted roads and the moanings of condemned men. from: "The Ghosts of Williamsburg" Vol. II by L.B. Taylor, Jr.
