Benjamin Coolidge, son of Thomas Coolidge and Clarissa Baldwin, was born in Hallowell, Kennebec County, Maine in 1813; married with MARY WHITE MANNING, daughter of Jonas & Mary Manning on October 1, 1844 in Woburn, Massachusetts. She was born 1810 in Woburn. Both were teachers. They resided in 1870 in Lawrence, Massachusetts. He died August 25, 1871 in Lawrence, Massachusetts. He changed vocations and took up the job of civil engineering.
Benjamin Coolidge and his brother, Thomas Brewster Coolidge [1815-1895], were the two sons of Thomas Brewster Coolidge, Sr. [1785-1858]. The two brothers were employed as engineers at the Essex Company, a water power company largely responsible for the development of Lawrence as a manufacturing city.
