Aznar I Galíndez, Count of Aragon

Aznar I Galíndez (?? – 839), también llamado Aznard o Achinard, fue conde de Aragón del 809 al 820, sucesor de Aureolo de Aragón tras su muerte. Desde la pérdida de Aragón hasta su muerte en el 839, Aznar I fue conde de Cerdaña y de Urgel. Algunas fuentes lo mencionan como conde de Jaca.

Aznar I era bisnieto de Galindo, probablemente el primer cabeza de familia que se introdujo con los francos en la región.

Casado con Eneca Garcés, que actualmente se cree fue una dama de Gascuña, tuvo cuatro hijos:

Matrona, casada con García I Galíndez, que depuso a Aznar I y gobernó desde el 820 al 833 Eilo Centulfo Galindo I Aznárez, conde de Aragón del 844 al 867 y de Urgel y Cerdaña hasta 844. Aznar I gobernó, en un principio, bajo influencia franca. Se supone que en el 820 la alianza con los francos fue abandonada a favor de un acercamiento a Pamplona y a los Banu Qasi del valle del Ebro. Esto le hizo perder el condado de Aragón aunque fue recompensado con los de Urgel y Cerdaña.

Aznar Galíndez I (also Asnar; died 839) was the Count of Aragon and Conflent from 809 and Cerdanya and Urgell from 820. Aznar has been confused with Aznar Sánchez, Duke of Gascony, and some authorities have even considered the two like-named contemporaries to be one and the same person. Aznar succeeded Aureolus as count of the valley of the River Aragón on the latter's death in 809. Some sources indicate him as count of Jaca, which was probably the seat of his authority within the valley. He was installed by the King of Aquitaine, Pepin I, and remained a Frankish vassal. In 820, he seems to have abandoned his Frankish benefactors and allied with the Basques to fight the Banu Qasi of the Ebro valley. He was deposed in Aragon by his son-in-law García Galíndez. He was later compensated with Urgel and Cerdagne. He married Eneca Garcés, probably a Basque, and they had four children: Matrona, who married García Galíndez Eilo Centulf Galindo Aznárez I, later Count of Aragon [edit]Sources

Toda Aznárez, also Teuda de Larraun or Tota was the daughter of Aznar Sánchez, lord of Larraun, paternal grandson of king García Íñiguez of Pamplona, while her mother Oneca Fortúnez was a daughter of king Fortún Garcés.

Per Stuart's "Royalty For Commoners" (292:43), he was Count of Aragon,

Gascony, & Urgal; was from upper Aragon; adherent to the Carolingians;

c.809-839, captured by the Navarrise in 824; driven out of Urgal by the

Moors after 825.
