About Anthony Dyke, Jr.

Biography

Anthony was the son of Anthony Dike and his wife Tabitha (Unknown). His date of birth is not known, but has been estimated by Anderson to be about 1636.,[1]

Anthony married Margery (Unknown) by about 1665, and they had six children together between about 1666 and 1679.[2] Nathaniel Pickman, Anthony's step-father and a house-carpenter, built a house for Anthony on a lot in Salem that Nathaniel owned; and Anthony lived there when Nathaniel conveyed the house and lot to him on 10 Jul 1670.[3] On 11 Aug 1673 Anthony sold to Nathaniel Pickman "my father-in-law" all land belonging to Anthony "as eldest son to my father Anthony Dike deceased."[4][5] This reference to Nathaniel being his father-in-law seems to have led some researchers to believe that Anthony's wife Margery was Nathaniel Pickman's daughter, but it's clear from the 1670 conveyance as well as all other pertinent records that Nathaniel was Anthony's step-father.

Their youngest child, Benjamin, was born after Anthony's death in 1679. He died intestate, and administration of the estate was granted to Margery 25 Nov 1679.[2]

Margery then married John Poland/Polin/Polen in 1680.[3] She was still living 26 Aug 1713 when she refused the administration of John's estate, he having died intestate on 3 Aug 1713.[4]
