Anne Martin Hubbard Watts McPherson’s 1742 will lists at least three sons she had by Edward Watts of Stafford, i.e. Lt. Edward Watts II, Thomas Watts of Culpepper, and Francis Watts. It is very likely that there were other sons, including David Watts b. circa 1702

Although it is widely published in print and on the internet, Edward Watts did NOT die in 1690 / 1691. This would be only 2-3 years after his 1688 marriage to Anne Martin, the widow of Jacob Hubbard, A 1691 reference to the widow Anne Watts probating her deceased husbands estate refers to Anne's first husband Jacob Hubbard, and NOT her second husband Edward Watts as has been mistakenly reported. Edward Watts almost certainly lived for at least another twenty years. This explains why, according to Anne's will, there were at least three Watts sons and a Watts daughter during their marriage, which lasted for decades rather than two years .There may also be other children not listed in Anne's will, such as David Watts of Stafford b ca 1702 .. • In Name of God Amen I ANNE MACKPHERSON of Stafford County Widow being sick, but of sound memory, doe make this my last will and Testament.
• First I give my Soul unto God and for my body to the Earth to be buried.
• Such worldly Estate .. I give in manner following.
• Item I give to my Loving son JACOB HUBARD one negro wench named Hannah.
• Item I give to my Loving Son MATHEW HUBBARD one Servant man named JOHN PAGE.
• Item I give to my Loving Son THOMAS WATTS one Feather bed rugg and pair of blanketts and a pair of sheets, with a bolster and pillow.
• Item I give to my son FRANCIS WATTS one bedstead and feaster and Table and drawer
• Item I give to my grand daughter ANNE JONES daughter of GEORGE JONES and MARGARET his wife 1 feather bed and boulster a Silk rugg and pair of blanketts and 1 pair of sheets one iron pot one frying pan three pewter dishes, three pewter bacons, and half a dozen of pewter plates
• Item I give to my Loving son EDWARD WATTS 1 negro man named Jockey four cows and calves, 2 stears of 3 years old, 1 feather bed and bolster rugg and blanketts and sheets.
• Item I give to my Loving daughter MARGARET JONES wife of George Jones all my wearing cloaths and a chest with a Lock and Key to it. _
• Item I give to my loving Son Edward Watts the plantation whereon 1 now live during his life and after his decease to JOSEPH WAUGH.

• Item I give all the rest of my Estate to be equally divided between my loving sons Mathew Hubbard, Edward Watts and GEORGE JONES. My debts being first paid out of my crop of Tobacco.

The following notes refer to is a DIFFERENT Edward Watts: Edward Watts, was born before 16 Oct 1620 (which is the date he was christened) in Wells, Somerset County, England, and died between 1717 and 1721 in Stafford Co., VA.[1] ???? Edward left England for Virginia 26 Nov 1640; in 1646 he was in York Co., VA; he returned to England, then returned to Virginia from Bristol, England in 1664 and again in 1679. He married in Stafford Co., VA, Anne Martin.

John Martin Jr was named in the will of cousin Frances Golber/White/Lampton 24 Apr 1716 “cousin John Martin Jr. the tract of land where Richard Craford is now living.” Wits: Mary Martin, Thomas MacDunin, Elizabeth Spears. The will also made a bequest to "cousin Francis Martin the tract of land where James Clark is now living." it is unclear whether this Francis was a full sibling of John Martin, Jr., or perhaps was Francis Waddington, Jr. [3]
In a court record from 1727 Anne acknowledged the right of John Martin, Jr. to land in King George county that her husband, Daniel McPherson, had purchased from Francis Waddington [unclear whether Sr or Jr, both were dead at this point] even though Francis on his deathbed said the land should belong to John Martin, Jr.

STAFFORD COUNTY VA WILL BOOK M; 1729-1748; THE ANTIENT PRESS p. 495 This Indenture made 6th November 1727 between DANIEL McPHERTIAN and ANN his wife of Stafford County and JOHN MARTIN of County King George Witnesseth that Daniel McPhertain and Anne his wife doth acknowledge the gift being his desire of 100 acres for ever to the said John Martin adjoining and being the back of Seldens line the land that said Daniel purchased from FRANCES WADDINGTON sold it by deed .. to hold the 100 acres hereby made as a gift on his death bed to said John Martin his heirs forever by the evidence of ANN McPHERTAIN and JACOB WATS her son and JOHN SIMSON the son of SAMUEL SIMSON This acknowledgment made between Ann McPhertain of one part and John Martin of King George County witnesseth that Ann McPhertain doth acknowledge the right of the land mentioned to said John Martin against me the said Ann McPhertain. This John Martin was probably born 10-15 years earlier since we know his daughter Anne was born about 1655. He was married to a woman named Christian, maiden name unknown, born abt.1639. They had three or four children, Anne, Christian, and John Jr, and possibly Francis (Francis might be a grandson). John died by 1674 and his widow, Christian married a man named Francis Waddington. The Deposition of ANN MACKFERSON of Stafford County aged about 63 years the Deponent .. being duly sworn sayeth that FRANCES GOLBER came to her & asked her whether or not she was the Daughter of FRANCIS WADDINGTON'S wife which the aforesaid ANN said she was then replyed ffRANCES GOLBER you are my own Cousin for your mother & my mother is two sisters Deponent further sayeth that her mother which was then WADDINGTONS wife but sometime before had been the wife of JOHN MARTIN deceased informed her at several times that ffRANCES GOLBER was her own Sisters child & the Deponent further Declareth that the aforesaid ffRANCES (GOLBER) which was after was the wife of THOMAS WHITE Deceased always acknowledged WADDINGTON'S wife to be her Aunt & further the Deponent sayeth not .. WADDINGTON'S wife after some Discourse with aforesaid ffRANCES GOLBER concerning the place of their nativety ffRANCES GOLBER asked WADDINGTON'S wife if she knows such a woman which aforesaid WADDINGTON'S wife replyed I did know her very well some years ago for she is my own sister Then replyed ffRANCES GOLBER you are my Aunt then says WADDINGTON'S Wife you are my own sister's child I the aforesaid MARY REYNOLDS further declared that WADDINGTON'S Wife as far as ever she heard afterwards ever went for ffRANCES GOLBER'S Aunt and further Deponent sayeth not .. This is Anne (Martin) Hubbard Watts McPherson, b about 1667 probably in Stafford, will probated March 7, 1742 in Stafford. Not Anne Rounds. She was married three times and had at least six children. probably more See the notes I'm placing under the discussion section.
