Anne Bridger

ANNE HILL, b. ca. 1550; m. (1) NICHOLAS SMALPECE, 4 Oct. 1573; he was bur. as "Mr. Nicholas Smalpece, Maior Aliguando" [sometime mayor], 29 April 1601. Nicholas Smalpece was mayor of Guildford in 1596. Anne m. (2), date unknown, RICHARD BRIDGER. Anne is mentioned in the will of her sister, Alice (Hill) (Parkhurst) Shaw, as "Anne Smalpeece [crossed out] Bridger," and Richard Bridger (brother-in-law) was named overseer. Richard Bridger was mayor of Guildford in 1612. Ann, wife of Mr. Richard Bridger, was bur. 27 Feb. 1615/6.

She was named Annis in her first husband's will and Agnes in her second husband's will. Ann, Annis and Agnes were often used interchangeably in the documents of this period.
