About Andrew Barton McPherson
- Updated from MyHeritage Family Trees via brother Reuben Mcpherson by SmartCopy: Nov 19 2014, 16:59:37 UTC
This is a special little cemetery, on a hilltop, battling away with the moss and poison oak within in an iron fence created by S.E. McPherson of Chattanooga sometime in its history. Barton is a special resident; having cared for his parents many of their final days, and stayed in Tennessee against the pressures of the Civil War era that caused much of the family to continue westward. He rests amongst McPherson's, Ewings, Haglers, Haggards, beside his wife Parthenia. Barton's given name was Andrew, but his middle name, from his grandmother's side, was mostly used, and finally defined his headstone. Across Ten Mile road from the cemetery, is the family home Barton built in 1846. This is the second "old McPherson Place" in Tennessee. It was still there about 2007.* One of the three chimneys had fallen away, but otherwise it had much of its original look, with a front porch with columns and a balcony on top. There was a very old one-room cottage across the driveway, that some thought was for slaves. It had single walls of wide two inch planks, that must have been caulked. This may have been "the house across the road" from the 1951 description where Daniel, the Revolutionary War veteran, told his niece of he and his brother Henry going to war (Battle of Cowpens). Barton cared for his father and his mother, Susanna, through their final days, after which they were returned to the previous "McPherson place" near Rockwood, Tennessee for eternal rest. Descendants of Andrew thus have Revolutionary War patriot ancestors through both his McPherson father, his Kincheloe father-in-law, and probably his only wife's Hale grandfather.
Probable children of Barton and Parthenia were: Hezekiah McPherson; Elijah Pendelton McPherson (August 25, 1811 in Roane County, Tenn - February 14, 1882); Susannah (McPherson) Turner (1813 in Roane Co Tennessee - 1860) Mary (McPherson) Haggard (March 1, 1816 in Roane Co Tennessee - November 12, 1891); Charles Perry McPherson; Deborah (McPherson) Short (April 27, 1821 in Roane Co Tenn - July 23, 1893 in Marionville, Lawrence Co, MO); Parthenia Ann (McPherson) Deatheridge (January 18, 1826 in Rockwood, Roane, Tn - December 28, 1888 in Roane Co, Tenn); John Hale McPherson (October 9, 1827 in Rockwood, Roane Co Tenn - July 12, 1895 in Stockman, MO); Thomas Hawes McPherson (April 01, 1831 near 10 Mile Station, Rhea, TN - January 10, 1894 in Rhea, TN); Barton McPherson; Nancy McPherson (October 17, 1840 - November 5, 1840); and Margaret (McPherson) Foust (August 29, 1835 in Eureka, Roane, Tn - October 3, 1920 Spring City, Tennessee).
Probable siblings of Andrew were: Suzanna McPherson (1773 in Botetourt County, VA - ); Mary McPherson (1774 in Faquier, Botetourt County, VA - 1814 Tenessee - ) She married abt 1798 Joseph A. Porter (1772 in Botetourt County, VA) - ); Charles Lewin McPherson (1778 in Bottetourt County, VA - ) Horton McPherson (1778 in Botetourt County, VA - ) Henry McPherson (January 1, 1782 in Botetourt County, VA - ); George W C McPherson (January 1, 1784 in Botetourt County, VA - Abt 1869 in Blount Co Ala); Andrew Barton McPherson; Elijah Daniel McPherson; Hannah McPherson (January 1, 1792 in Hawkins Co, TN - Abt 1883); Nancy McPherson (1793 in Hawkins Co, TN - ); Julia Ann McPherson (January 1, 1794 - 1829) (She married John Lorren); Reuben or Ruben McPherson (Bet.
