Origins

From message posted on 6 July 2004: Surnames: Walker/Munford/Kennon: < link >

"I think some doubt has been cast on Amey Walker, born February 1717, as the daughter of David Walker and Mary Munford. There were at least four David Walkers in Tidewater Virginia around this time, and sorting them out is a real puzzle. I don't think there is any doubt that Amey Walker was probably the daughter of a man named David Walker - she named her first son David Walker Pettus - but the question is, which one?

I believe the current thinking is that the Mary Munford who married David Walker was born around 1702, and they were not married until after 1717, which would make her an unlikely candidate to be Amey's mother. Also, Amey Walker did not have any siblings, indicating that her mother may have died at or shortly after the time of her birth, and Mary Munford Walker lived for decades afterward. I live in Virginia and have access through the "Virginiana room" of the Fairfax County Library to a couple of well-researched histories of the Kennon family written by scholars rather than family members (Mary Munford was the daughter of Martha Kennon) which are out of print and may not be available everywhere. If you would like the information, e-mail me at sehoytwo[at]aol.com. Perhaps DNA can illuminated a solution to this problem.
