About America H. Goodman
William Nathan Goodman and William Kimble Goodman are the same person. Kimble was a family nickname that was never referred to again after 1860 or so. Samuel and Amanda (America) are the parents of William and Ann, who the family called Annie. William was born 24 Nov 1857 and died 20 Sep 1939. Annie was born in Apr 1867 but I don't know when she died. I think she was "mentally challenged" because Samuel assumed she would never marry and made provision for her to have income property in his will.
I don't know what happened to America though I've tried hard to find out. But she either died or she and Samuel divorced because on 25 Aug 1877 Samuel married Martha (Mattie) A. Hoffman Massey. Mattie was my grandmother. Samuel and Mattie had 7 children. They were Sarah Ann born 14 Feb 1879, Mary Luella born in 1880, Samuel Henry Jr., born 28 Apr 1881, Artie Arde born Jul 1887, Jonas Shell born 7 Oct 1888, Jesse James born Feb 1890, and last but not least Charles Adams born 15 Jun 1894. Charles was my father. My grandmother died on 21 May 1896 when my father was less than 2 years old.
Then on 3 Jan 1897 my grandfather married his third and last wife, Hattie E. Tribble Cooper. She and Samuel had 1 child, a son named Virgil Edgar, on 18 Jul 1897. (You will notice the close proximity to their wedding date.) Samuel Henry Goodman, always referred to as "The Captain" in the family, died on 26 Dec 1905.
