Obituary - Mrs Alice Fenton. It is our painful duty to record the death of another of the old pioneers of the district in the person of Mrs Alice Fenton, who passed away at the residence of her daughter Mrs S. Conn, Rangiuru, on Monday morning. The deceased lady, who was 77 years of age was a native of County Down, Ireland, and arrived in New Zealand with a brother, Mr J. Gilmore, when she was eighteen years of age. She married the late Mr James Henry Fenton, a well known contractor, and resided for 19 years in Tauranga, afterwards coming to the Te Puke district where she lived for the past 38 years. She was a woman of very strong personality and could tell of many interesting experiences in the early days. She leaves a family of five daughters and two sons — Mesdames E. Robinson (Auckland), S. J. Conn (Rangiuru), A. G. Diprose (Rangiuru), A. J. Collins (Te Puke), J. G. Saunders (Te Puke) and Messrs R. J. Fenton (Papamoa) and A H. Fenton (Te Puke). One son was killed at the war. The funeral took place at noon to-day and was attended by a large gathering of mourners. The burial service was conducted by the Rev. Holmes, Of Tauranga. TE PUKE TIMES, 22 MAY 1934, PAGE 2
The funeral of the late Mrs A. Fenton took place at Te Puke yesterday and was attended by a large number of residents from the Tauranga, Papamoa and Te Puke districts. A service was held at noon at the Church of England by the Rev. M. E. Holmes, of Tauranga, after which the cortege left for the Te Puke cemetery, where the last rites were performed by the Rev. Holmes. The pall-bearers were Messrs R. McPike, L. Vercoe, J. Gain, W. J. Griffin, J. P. Ryan and Murray Stewart, and the chief mourners were Messrs R. and A. Fenton, sons of the deceased.
