About Alfre Woodard
Alfre Woodard (born November 8, 1952) is an American film, stage, and television actress, producer, and political activist. Woodard has been named one of the most versatile and accomplished actors of her generation.[1] She has been nominated once for an Academy Award and Grammy Award, 18 times for an Emmy Award (winning four), and has also won a Golden Globe Award and three Screen Actors Guild Awards.

Woodard was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to Constance, a homemaker, and Marion H. Woodard, an entrepreneur and interior designer.[4] She is the youngest of three children. Woodard lives in Santa Monica, California, with her husband, writer Roderick Spencer and their two adopted[74] children, Mavis and Duncan.

Woodard on her family's storytelling traditions, with a mother (the descendant of a sharecropper) and father (a retired oil driller and interior decorator) each one of 12 children, and with a grandmother who was one of 23 kids and who married a man who had 26 siblings:
