Alexander Trent was recorded as Alexander Trent, Jr., on his and Frances Scott's marriage certificate. His father, Alexander Trent "Sr" (actually a "Junior" himself) was alive when "Junior" was married. Alexander "Sr." died in 1751. His father died in 1703 (likewise, his LWT was probated that year) in Henrico County.

Alexander Trent was born on 3 Mar 1729 in Henrico County, Virginia. He married firstly Frances Scott on 27 Sep 1750 in Cumberland County, Virginia. He and Frances had only one child, Frances Trent, born between mid-1751 and late 1752. After Frances died (probably in childbirth or soon afterward) Alexander married secondly to Elizabeth Woodson 01 Jan 1753 in Goochland County, Virginia.

After Frances died, Alexander married 18-year-old Elizabeth Branch Woodson. They were united on 1 Jan 1753 in Goochland County, Virginia. Their children purported to be:

Alexander William Trent III was born on 3 Mar 1729 in Henrico County, Virginia to parents Alexander William Trent II and Frances Allen. He was a partner in the Mercantile business known as Nathaniel Venable and Company. He was elected as the first justice of the new county of Cumberland County, Virginia in 1749 and was Burgess from Cumberland County 1765-1771, along with Thomas Jefferson. Known as Alex Trent of "Barterhill", Cumberland County of Willis River, and Manchester. He died on 25 Feb 1793 in Powhatan County, Virginia.

BIOGRAPHY: Deed and personal property tax records show Alexander Trent's migration from Chesterfield County to the Falling River area of Bedford County, VA about the time of the Revolutionary War. The area where Alexander settled became part of Campbell County in 1782.

Based on personal property tax records, Alexander probably had three sons, Alexander, Elijah and Zachariah. (From 1785 to 1792, Campbell County personal property tax records list Alexander Trent, Sr., usually with Elijah, Zachariah and Alexander Trent, Jr.) Alexander may also have been the father two Trent women who married in Campbell County and lived in the Falling River area: Mina Trent, who married Barnett Finch about 1772, and Frances Trent, who married Nelson Brooks about 1782. - by Michael Ritter

1) that he married an Indian woman and that her name was Elizabeth,
2) he had two wives, and the second one was named Elizabeth, or
3) he was married first to Alexander Trent, Jr's mother, Elizabeth second to an Indian woman who was William D.'s mother, and third to a woman named Elizabeth (Trent) who signed a deed in 1792 along with Alexander Trent in Patrick County, VA

Here is a possibility put forward by Scott Trent Jr. on genforum #2050; beginning paragraph 12.

Very little is actually known about Alexander Trent's wives, so this is conjecture only. These conjectures are made because old Hancock County stories always said that Alexander Trent, Jr., the Revolutionary War Soldier (RWS), and William D. Trent were half brothers and that William D. Trent's mother was Native American.

"Other children of Alexander are: Alexander Jr. (RWS who married Jane Burton), Zachariah, Henry, Mima, Elijah, Benjamin, Francis, and Field Trent. We do not know if any of these were full siblings to William or if they were half, but we do know that Alexander (RWS) was always said to be William D.'s half brother."

According to Alton Lee Greene, Alexander Trent, our ancestor, son of William Trent, married___________, had a son Alexander Jr. and others. His wife died and he married an Indian woman and they had William D. Trent, 1769 - 1186_, and others.

There is a deed in Campbell County, VA where Alexander Trent bought land on Bear Creek 1782. 247 acres from James Robertson on June 6, 1782. he and his third wife sold this land in Campbell County on Oct. 4, 1790 to James Miller. At this time Alexander's wife was Elizabeth. On the Tax list for Campbell County, VA 1787 are Alexander Trent, Alexander Trent, Sr., Zachariah and Elijah Trent.

This is Alexander Trent, born about 1726 in Henrico County, VA and died I believe 1803 in Patrick County, VA and three of his children.

1. Alexander Trent, Jr. 1759 to 1841 married Jane Burton in 1792.
2. Zachariah Trent 176_ 18__, married Lucy Daniel. He died in Campbell County, VA and left a will.
3. Elijah Trent, 176_ to 18__, married Susannah Rattekin? He lived Campbell County and Patrick County, VA.

Alexander Trent, 1759 - 1841 said in his American Revolutionary pension application that he was born in Chesterfield County, VA in 1759 and he lived in Bedford County, VA 1777-8 when he enlisted in the army at age 18 or so. In 1782 Campbell County was formed out of Bedford County.
