Alexander William Lazootin

Alexander W. Lazootin, son of William Safonich Lazootin and wife Martha Prakopinva Reshatoff, was born in San Francisco, California on March 21, 1918. He died September 20, 1980 in Alameda County, California. According to the Social Security Death Index, his last residence was in Newark, California. He was buried at the Russian Sectarian Cemetery, Colma, San Mateo County, California. He never married and had no known children.

Alexander appears on the 1940 US census for San Francisco, aged 22, single and living in his parents’ home. He listed his occupation as butcher. He enlisted in the army on February 24, 1942. From his enlistment papers we learn that he was single but that he had dependents, that he had three years of high school, and was classed as a semi-skilled meat-cutter. He entered the army as a private and left as a sergeant.

Alexander pitched for the San Francisco Owls, a baseball team sponsored by the Owl Drug Company. He pitched a wild inning in 1937, costing his team a win. That game was written about in the Oakland Tribune.

Al's Baseball Career

Al Lazootin, Owl pitcher, became wild in the final inning and walked the first two batters with the result the Owl infielders went up in the air to toss in three boots and set the stage for Hardt to win his own game.Johnny Fernandez.
