Alain Benjamin Arthur Rohan (French: Alain Benjamin Arthur de Rohan; 8 January 1853 – 23 February 1914) was a nobleman, soldier, politician and head of the House of Rohan since 1892.

He was born in Budapest, the son of Arthur Rohan (son of Benjamin Rohan and nephew of Kamil Rohan).

His sister Marie Berta Rohan (1868–1945) by marriage to Charles Duke of Madrid, Carlist pretender to the Spanish throne, titular queen consort of Spain, France and Navarre.

He graduated from the Vienna Officers' School and lived as a professional soldier with the dragoons, in 1882 he moved to the reserve as a rhythm player 1st class. [2]

In 1885 he married Johanna von Auersperg, with whom he had four daughters and sons Alain and Karl Anton Rohan.

In 1892, after the death of his great-uncle Kamil Rohan, he took over the inheritance, including the family fideicommissum and the residence in Sychrov, the following year he became a member of the House of Lords of the Austrian Imperial Council,[3] where he was engaged as a member of the Party of the Constituent Estate, for this party he was also elected to the Czech Provincial Assembly in 1901, where he later held the position of head of the party club.

Alain Benjamin Arthur de Rohan (8 January 1853 – 23 February 1914) was an Austro-Hungarian aristocrat and politician of French origin. Head of the House of Rohan from 1892 until his death, he was also a member of the upper house of the Austrian parliament (1893–1914) and a member of the Bohemian parliament (1901–1908).

Alain de Rohan was the son of His Serene Highness Prince Arthur de Rohan Rochefort (1826-1895), Major in the Austrian troops, Knight of Honour and Devotion in the Sovereign Order of Malta (lay member) 1 and Countess Gabrielle de Waldstein Wartenbourg (1827-1890).

Born from the French House of Rohan, he was the brother of Marie Berthe de Rohan, married to Charles de Bourbon, Duke of Madrid, head of the House of Bourbon from 1887 to 1909.

Elder himself of the House of Rohan, he is therefore also the brother-in-law of the elder of the House of Bourbon.

He was also the great-great-grandson of Henri Louis Marie de Rohan, Prince of Guéméné, and his wife, Victoire de Rohan Soubise 2.

He inherited Sychrov Castle, the heritage residence of the House of Rohan in Bohemia.

As an officer, he was a captain in the Landwehr of the Austrian Uhlan Regiment.

He was also a hereditary member of the Austrian House of Lords, chamberlain and knight of honour and devotion of the Sovereign Order of Malta (lay member) 3.

In 1908, Emperor Franz Joseph 1st made him a knight of the Austrian Order of the Golden Fleece (no. 1170).

On 10 October 1885, he married in Prague Princess Jeanne of Auersperg (Teplitz 17 September 1860 - Sychrov Castle 17 December 1922), daughter of Prince Adolf of Auersperg, member of the Bohemian Diet in 1867, member of the House of Lords of the Imperial Council in 1868, Governor of Salzburg, Minister-President of Austria from 1871 to 1879, and Countess Jeanne Festetics of Tolna, his second wife. From this union, six children were born:

-Gabrielle de Rohan, (Albrechtsberg 18 June 1887 - 9 May 1917);
-Bertha of Rohan (Prague 5 January 1889 - Bergen 9 August 1977), married in Sychrov on 20 September 1922 to Rudolf, Count of Colloredo Mansfeld (1876-1948);
-Marie-Anne de Rohan (Sychrov 26 July 1893 - 20 November 1966);
-Alain de Rohan, Duke of Montbazon, Duke of Bouillon, Knight of the Austrian Order of the Golden Fleece (Sychrov 26 July 1893 - Vienna 2 September 1976), married in Vienna on 29 September 1921 to Marguerite, Princess of Schönburg Hartenstein (1897 - 1980). including seven girls;
-Charles Antoine de Rohan (Albrechtsberg 9 January 1898 - Salzburg 17 March 1975), married in Budapest on 29 June 1933 to Marie, Countess Apponyi de Nagy Appony (1899 - 1967). Including two sons, Charles Alain de Rohan (1934 - 2008) and Albert de Rohan.
