About Agnes Trueblood

Agnes was born 1 March 1656 in Ulverston, Lancashire.[1][2]

Agnes married John Trueblood in Devonshire House, London[3] on 31 July 1679.[4] Listed among the witnesses are Anne Trueblood, John's cousin, and Sarah Fisher, Agnes' sister. This is the last record of John and Agnes in England, they emigrated to the Carolinas before their children were born.

The next reference we have of Agnes is in John's will but much can be deduced from this.[5]

In the Carolinas, John and Agnes settled on the Pasquotank River, where it begins to narrow along the western side of Aranuse Creek (where Treasure Point Park is today). At the time it was described as Albemarle County, then became Pasquotank County but is now Camden County. If they sailed the summer after his grandfather's death they would have arrived in the summer of 1683.

They had four surviving young children born in the Carolinas, Mary born in 1684, Elizabeth in 1687, John in 1689, and Amos in 1691.

John was in the process of receiving a significant land grant of 600 acres but that will devolve onto his sons.

John was clearly worried about Agnes health as well as his own as he is preparing for his infant children's guardianship. The land was divided between the sons, the movable goods between all four children. This is absolutely standard in English wills of the time.

The will is dated 7 May 1692 and probated 4 July of that year so it is likely that John passed away in May or June, 1692.

Agnes did not long survive him. Her will is dated 15 September of the same year and we can assume she did not long survive this, dying aged just 36[6].

John and Agnes' four young children are left in the care of Thomas & Jeremiah Symons, their close neighbors.
