Very recently, familysearch.org changed Agnes Ross Andersons' birth parents to Alexander Anderson and Sarah Borace/Bryce
Brice - see Bryce Bryce - same as Bruys or Bruce - Lanarkshire, etc.
From _History of the Brice Family_ compiled by George Wilson Brice of Charlotte, NC in 1944:
"Tradition in the Brice family is that the name was at one time, Bruce, being descendants of King Robert Bruce of Scotland. My research has failed to substantiate this claim. While Robert Bruce was a fugitive on the continent of Europe for a time, he regained his throne after the victory at Bannockburn June 24, 1314 and, not only reigned until his own death, but another generation of Bruces followed him on the throne. The Brice family were adherents of the Bruce dynasty and of the House of Stuart, which followed the Bruces after David Bruce died childless, but there is nothing to connect their emigration to America with the rise and fall of the Stuarts as Bonnie Prince Charlie suffered his last crushing defeat at Culleden in 1746, long after the adventurous Brices had gone from Ireland to America.. They were not, therefore, in the position of the Scotch settlers who had taken an oath of allegiance to the English King just before coming to American and were classified as Tories because they considered themselves bound to the King."

It has been told in the Brice family that the name comes from De Bruys, the same family which gave Robert Bruce, King of Scotland, Robert De Bruys, a noble Norman Knight, who accompanied William the Conqueror in 1066, because of ability was sent into Scotland to take over the country. It was he who established the royal house of Bruce.
H. A. L. Fisher in his book "James Bryce" states Bryce is possibly a corruption of Bruce. The coats of Arms of the Brice, Bryce and Bruce families are almost identical. The one now used by the Brice family is: a gold shield (OR) with a saltire cross of red (gules), also a chief of red with a red bordure around the shield. The crest is a cubic arm erect proper grasping a scimeter argent. The motto is "Do Wee Doubt Nought". This Coat of Arms was copied from the tomb of the Rev. Edward Brice and as described has not been located in any books on Heraldry, however several are practically the same. These along with the Bruce families are given here to show more clearly the similarity of the names.
