About Agatha Taliaferro
King believes that Francis was married late in life to Mary Dick which explains why she outlived him so long. He believes Charles Champe T was a late child. I am skeptical. There is a Francis who dies in 1768 and I think this must be this Francis. So 1773 does not fit for Charles Champe's birthdate. Some records indicate that Francis was born about 1709 and is John's oldest son. This cannot be true. Francis inherits Hay Mount under the Will of his grandmother, Ann Robinson Hay. Thus he must be the son of Agatha Hay. Agatha Hay receives a pony in 1713 as daughter of John Hay, thus seemingly still single. Thus, Agatha must marry John of the Mount after 1713 and Francis must be born later than that. Francis seems certain to be the Francis who dies testate in 1768 appointing Christopher Robinson, Edmund Pendleton, and Robert Gilchrist as executors. He must leave his estate to someone other than his heir at law, since the court invites the heir at law to object to the will. The inheritor of Hay Mount would name the first two of these as executors by virtue of their being neighbors and by virtue of their involvement with the Robinsons. Harry T's theory is that this is the Francis that dies in 1768 having control of both Hay Mount and T Mount. He does not have offspring, so the Mount is left to his orphaned nephew Francis, s of John of Dissington. Thus, Charles Champe is named for his mother's father and his father's grandfather.
