She was the daughter of William S. & Susannah (Seat) Ezell. When she was about 15 she was taken advantage of by a married man. Her father sent her off to stay with her Uncle James Ezell in Spartanburg County.
She reared her only child, Mary, under his roof and they became devoted to each other. When Mary married she moved into their home with them.
CAROLINA HERALD dated December 1, 1880: Miss Dorcas Ezell aged 91, died at the home of Uncle Billy Parris near Parris Bridge Road November 23, 1880. She was a member of the Buck Creek Baptist Church.
CAROLINA HERALD dated December 8, 1880: Dorcas Ezell, whose death was published last week had but one child. The wife of William Parris, known as Uncle Billy. The descendants of Mrs. Parris now number 107.
NOTE: Her daughter, Mary "Polly" Ezell Parris was born February 11, 1805, in Spartanburg County, South Carolina and died November 22, 1888, in Spartanburg County. She married William M. Parris in about 1825 and she made a home for her family, as well as several others. On every census there were two or three extra people living with them. Her mother lived in the same household with them for 65 years. She lost two sons to the Civil War. They raised their grandson, William H. Parris, after he was orphaned. Her entire married life was spent in the Buck Creek Church community. They were farmers and owner/operators of a saw mill on Buck Creek. Here they reared their family and shared the joys of life as well as the sorrows. They were members and attendees of the Buck Creek Baptist Church. The church was the center of their social life. She was the mother of ten children;
