PS - by "First-hand information" did she mean family information passed on to her by ?? Or?? - Or was she really claiming in 2014 that she was alive in 1906 and witnessed his death or ???

He is listed with two wives.
With Sheine 'Sarah', 'Jennie' Siegel he is listed as having 6 children for whom I have found some info and may well have these parents, out of 7 children total:

• David Siegel
• Jennie Siegel - who has no other info than her name, and about whom I have been able to find nothing -- As of 11/14/2024 not on the WikiTree Page for Abraham Jacob Siegel created by his 2nd great granddaughter on Aug. 5, 2014.

With Sarah Etta Siegel he is listed as having 2 children:

• Moishe Beer (Moses Dov) Levy - for whom there is nothing I have found for his mother, and nothing showing his father is this Avraham
• Zolatta Siegel - for which, on Geni, we have nothing but her name, and I have found nothing -- As of 11/14/2024 not on the WikiTree Page for Abraham Jacob Siegel created by his 2nd great granddaughter on Aug. 5, 2014.

Without a wife or partner, 1 child:

• Rashe-Beila Levy - who is shown as wife of Unknown Lurie but no other info, and about whom I have found nothing -- As of 11/14/2024 not on the WikiTree Page for Abraham Jacob Siegel created by his 2nd great granddaughter on Aug. 5, 2014.

He is also shown with one parent, a Father Shaya-Dovid 'Dov' Siegel and two siblings, Esther Fayge Karotkin who has a spouse and children and birth year 1819 and Zalmon Siegel who is currently Private so I cannot see any details except has a spouse and child - I have not seen any records for any of them.

The Hebrew word Segel stands for segan levia, another word for Levi. Thus the names were interchangeable. Dov Ber is a very common forename and has nothing to do with being a rabbi. It happens to have been the name of one of the Lubavitcher rebbes.

I read here once that Dov/Baer indicated the son of a rabbi. If this is true, then this at least confirms Abraham Jacob's rabbinical status.
