About Abraham Jans Ouke
Twin of William, baptized 5 February 1699 in Brooklyn Dutch Church, witnesses Theo and Aertje Polomus, Jan Willemse, Magdalen Wynants.
ABRAHAM JANSE OUKE son of Jan Ouke and Eva Janse, twin of William Ouke, was bp. 5 February 1699 at Brooklyn DC. His will was dated 10 August 1750, the inventory 25 August 1750 and the will proved 19 September 1750. (N.J. Wills Lib. E, p. 532. He married Antje Blaw.
The notice of the sale of Abraham’s property on 29 April 1751 (N.J. Col. Doc.) shows that he was prosperous. The sale included his house in New Brunswick, a store house near Still Wharf, a 1/4 share of a new built shallop. There was a house on the north sidc of' French Street with pump, stable and hayloft, 25 x 150 which was offered for rent at $255 per year. The records of the New Brunswick DC show that Jacob, William and Abraham were all members. Abraham joined 11 August 1721 and in 1732 was made an Elder. He may have lived in Somerset County before 1733 since his first two children were baptised in the Raritan Dutch Church. However, since Antje Blauw was probably from Somerset County this might account for the early baptisms there. In his will of 1750 he mentions a son, but does not name him. His brother William’s will does name the son, Abraham, however. He mentions his wife Antje, daughter Maria and three younger children.
