Saith that he entered the Service of the United States under the following named officers and served as herein stated: That he entered the service in 1775 as a volunteer under Capt. James Harrison [sic, probably James Garrison] in Bute County in North Carolina, Saith his first Tour was eight weeks in which time he was marched to engage with a party of Tories embodied between Cape Fear [River] and 56 [?] Drowning Creek, but before we reached the place the Tories were defeated by a liberty party and put to flight -- Capt. Harrison then received orders to retreat to Cape Fear to a ferry and there to lay in ambush in order to take those of our enemy that had made their escape which orders was executed And we took the whole party prisoners without the fire of a gun we then gave up the prisoners to a party of the liberty men who was to take charge of prisoners and to convey them to Hillsboro in North Carolina. That he then received a discharge from Capt. Harrison which is lost.

My Second Tour was under Capt. My Third tour was under Capt. Peter Bennett Samuel Crafton Lieut. under Col. Stephen Moore Cager Parker, Brigade-Major in the year 1780 we rendezvoused at Hillsboro, NC. Then was marched to Cross Creek lay there about three weeks, until we drew our arms and tent cloths Then was marched to Randolph Old C. House [Court House]. There we drew two days provision and was made marched to Edward Moore's ferry on the Yadkin River at which place I also received a discharge from Col. That his fourth Tour was volunteered under Capt. Henderson [John Henderson] finding myself a Horse. That he was promised that every Two months Service of himself and horse should clear him of Three months service, that Capt. Henderson joined with Col. Demalbury [probably Francis de Malmedy, Marquis of Bretagne]1 and Capt. Debarron [sic perhaps a mistake
in reference to DeBaron Toller?] at Bell's Mill. From thence was marched in pursuance of a Tory party embodied at Ramsey's Mill where we had a small engagement but without success. From there we was marched to Mecklenburg under Capt. Henderson where we had a small engagement with a party of Tories near linches Creek [Lynches Creek?], but without success. Two of our men were slightly wounded in the engagement we went on down linches Creek took some Tory prisoners and returned home in the year 1780.

That his fifth Tour was under Capt. Peter Bennet in the year 1781 who was employed in fishing for the United States. That he served a tour of three months under him hauling the Seigh [sleigh?] and cleaning and barreling up fish in Roanoke River that he received a discharge for the same which is lost.

And saith his parents informed him that he was born in Virginia in the year 1750. That he has in his possession a record of his age taken from the Original which he believes to be true. That his place of residence was in North Carolina when he first volunteered his services to the United States. In which state he continued for a number of years that his place of residence is now in South Carolina And further that he knows of no person whose testimony he can procure who can testify to his Service. He hereby relinquishes every claim whatever to a pension or annuity except the present and declares that his name is not on the pension roll of the agency of any State.
