Biography

[From a letter from Rachel G. Blish, wife of Lester H. Blish #2592, to Irene Sala states: that he was born in Wales in 1612 and his wife's name was Anne Pratt. Plymouth (Mass.) records say she died 16 May 1653, church records say the 26th.]

Abraham's actual roots are still unknown. The Joseph and Agnes often cited as parents are probably Joseph and Agnes HULL, grandparents of Hannah Hull, wife of grandson Jospeh Blish.

The first record of Abraham in the Colony was his purchase of a parcel in Duxbury from Captain Richard More, "Mayflower" Passenger on1 Nov 1637 for 21 pounds sterling. He sold some of that parcel 27 Nov 1638. Abraham was invited to join in establishing the new town of Barnstable. He acquired property and built a tidal powered grist mill near what is now Blish Point Marina. He may have gotten experience with Plymouth's first mill in 1634. He was debt free and admitted a freeman 1 Jun 1641. He married Anne Pratt that same year. Abraham was named constable, surveyor and grand juror in between 1643 and 1645

Mayflower Society records identify Abraham as Blush, not Blish. The wife of Abraham Blush, [2nd wife ]Anna Barker, (born Williams), was the widow of John Barker. Samuel Pratt had married Mary Barker, daughter of John and Anna Barker. "On 2nd 9th mo. (Nov.) 1668 Samuel Pratt gave a receipt to his father-in-law Abraham Blush for his wife's portion of John Barker's estate." (Abraham Blush was the step father of Mary Pratt (Barker.)
