About Abner Lester

Not the same as Abner Hulen Lester, Sr.

Abner Lester married Martha Arthur. Abner was not Abner Alexander Lester. Alexander was another man who died in TN.


General Notes: Abner was one of the early pioneers of Fincastle Co. Va. He obtained 326 acres of land by grant in Montgomery Co. Va. on Meadow Creek, a branch of Little River of the New River.

He lived there for several years. He moved to Russell Co. Va. prior to 1801. There on Aug. 24, 1801 he purchased 370 acres of land on the North Fork of Indian Creek.

On Aug. 17, 1804 he sold [some of] his land in Montgomery Co. to Henry Rupe for 200 Pounds. About 1809 he moved to Ky. On Oct 3, 1809 he sold his land in Russell Co. to Reddin Addison.

In 1832 Abner applied for a Revolutionary War Pension

Abner married Martha Arthur about 1767 in Montgomery County, VA. Martha was born about 1750 in Montgomery County, VA and died after 1770 in Virginia.

Pension terminated 9 Jul 1833, Lunenburg Co., VA. *From thebook, "Early Settlers of Lee County, Virginia, "Abner Lester was one of the early pioneers of Fincastle County, Virginia where he obtained land by grant. He settled on Pelham? Branch of Meadow Creek, a branch of Little Waters of the New River in MontgomeryCounty where he resided for several years.

Abner received a grant of 326 acres 17 Jun 1796 in Montgomery County, VA, on Pulma? Branch of Meadow Creek, a branch of Little River waters, of New River adjoining Ezekiel Howard & Grant No.34, pg 357. .

Sometime prior to 1801 Abner Lester moved to Russell County where he purchased land and settled for a few years." In 1832 Abner Lester applied for a Revolutionary War pension. From the Montgomery List of War Records: "Sworn of Captain Daniel Triggs Company 9, September 1777." Abnor Lester "24 Aug 1801 -Abner purchased 80 ac in Russell Co., VA from Tho Hunt for 74 pounds on the North fork of Indian Creek, Deed Book 3, Pg 232. 3Oct 1809 - Abner (Abern) & Martha sold this 80ac to Roddin Addison for 120 pounds from Floyd Co., VA, Dee d Book 4, Pg 282.Land Grant Abstacts, "L" Surnames - Montgomery Co., VA, Submitted by June White.
