Notes for Abijah Brainerd: --------------------------- Abijah Brainerd (James, Daniel) of Haddam Neck, Middlesex County, Connecticut; married, 28 December 1727, Esther Smith *, born 20 November 1706, daughter of Simon and Elizabeth (Wells) Smith of Haddam, Connecticut. Mrs. Esther (Smith) Brainerd died
. He married, second, Thankful Fuller †, born 10 July 1713, daughter of Shubael and Hannah (Crocker) Fuller of East Haddam, Connecticut. He settled on Haddam Neck, and was a farmer. Mr. Abijah Brainerd died September 1782. Mrs. Thankful (Fuller) Brainerd died
. * The late D. W. Patterson said to me (Lucy Abigail Brainard) that, as Abijah Brainerd married Esther, and as there were not many Esthers at that early date, he concluded that the Esther whom Abijah married was Esther Smith. I have no proof whatever as to what her maiden name was, excepting from D. W. Patterson, and the statement made by the late D. D. Field in the Brainard Genealogy. † In a letter to the late D. D. Field it was stated that Abijah Brainerd married Thankful Williams. I have not been able to prove a former marriage of Thankful Fuller though there may have been one.
