Abigail Bailey
Married
https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Bailey-1238
Abigail was born in about 1642 (based on the ages of her children from three different marriages). She is first recorded in Rhode Island. There is no absolute record of her parentage and the person attached as her father is not completely proved. See Research Notes for details.
She married William Charles in about 1660 (based on the ages of their children) before a magistrate, Mr Jeffery, in Rhode Island[1]. They went on to have seven children together[1]. The majority of these were born after the family moved to the Perquimans district of Albemarle County, Carolina.
William passed away 6 August 1677[1] in Perquimans. He must've been in his forties at the time and left Abigail a widow aged about 35.
Abigail remarried to John Lacy in 1678/9 and they had a daughter, Sarah born in 1680[1].
John died 4 Dec 1682 in Perquimans and Abigail was once again a widow.
Abigail married for the third time on 6 January 1683 to Francis Toms[1]. They had a daughter, Abigail, born in December 1684.
Abigail died 17 March 1687 in Perquimans[2][1]. She was then probably about 45 years old.
A William Bailey is recorded as having immigrated to Rhode Island from London and was present there by 1655[3]. This person may well be Abigail's father. As William married a local woman he probably arrived as a young man and Abigail was probably born there.
On 13 August 1661, William Charles, witnessed a complex land contract under which terms a William Bailey receives land from Thomas Laiton[4]. By this stage William Charles is already married to Abigail Bailey, their first child having been born the month before. It is likely that this William is Abigail's father as there is a reference to William's wife Grace and what is to happen in the event of William's death.
