About 2nd wife of Edmund Chandler

Biography

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Unknown-291822

The second wife of Edmund Chandler, has neither a known given or a known surname. She died before he wrote his will in 1662.[1]

Her children are estimated born between 1632 and 1648. Because of these births she was probably younger that Edmund born about 1610.

Children:

  • 1. John Chandler b. say 1632; In 1653, at sea bound for Barbadoes, he left his estate to his father
  • 2. Sarah Chandler b. say 1638; named in her father's will. No further record.
  • 3. Anna Chandler b. say 1640; named in her father's will. No further record.
  • 4. Mary Chandler, b. say 1642; named in her father's will. No further record.
  • 5. Benjamin Chandler b. say 1644; m. Elizabeth Buck
  • 6. Joseph Chandler b. say 1646; m. by 1673 Mercy ______
  • 7. Ruth Chandler b. say 1648; named in her father's will. No further record.

The first wife of Edmund Chandler, age estimated from estimated birth of children, died by 1632, the estimated birth of children by the second wife. she is not found in any records. Two wives are surmised because of the large gap between children.[1]

By his first wife Edmund had: 1) Samuel, married but had no known children. 2) (prob.) Lydia m Richard Higgins. 3) Child bur. Pierterskerk, Leiden 26 March 1619.

While some claim that Edmund Chandler's first wife was from the Barbados, there is no proof of that. In fact it is unlikely. The sugar left to Ann, Mary and Sarah Chandler in Edmund Chandler's will is most likely sugar left to Edmund by his son John, who died in 1653, and was probably a brother of Anna, Mary and Sarah. The will refers to sugar only, not to any plantation in Barbados.
