About Æthelburh, Queen Of Wessex
Æthelburg of Wessex
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Queen Æthelburg, (also Æthelburh), was the wife of King Ine of Wessex. In 722 C.E., she destroyed the stronghold of Taunton (which had been built by Ine) in an attempt to find the rebel Ealdbert.[1]
Ine and Aethelburg had no known children, thus throwing the country into a minor crisis when Ine died. The throne was eventually taken by Ine's brother-in-law, Æthelheard.
