D. Frei Álvaro Gonçalves Pereira (? - Amieira do Tejo, c. 1379), foi um nobre português, prior da Ordem do Hospital, que viveu no século XIV.

Pai de Nuno Álvares Pereira, 2º Condestável de Portugal.

D. Álvaro Gonçalves Pereira, foi Prior da Ordem do Crato até 1375, testamenteiro do rei D. Afonso IV (1357) e combatente na Batalha do Salado (1340). Do seu relacionamento com várias mulheres, dizem que foi pai de 32 filhos, entre eles o conhecido Santo Condestável D. Álvaro Gonçalves Pereira, Prior of Crato/Prior of the Hospitallers

He was the son of the powerful Archbishop of Braga, Gonçalo Pereira (ep.1325-1348).
Curator for Princess Beatriz, daughter of King Fernando and Queen Leonor Teles of Portugal (1376). [Fernando, ch. 96]
His military participation in the Battle of the Salado (1340) is mentioned by Portuguese sources. He was a royal councilor and powerful courtier of King Afonso IV.
In 1352 he participated in diplomatic activity in the encounter of Tarazona to establish the peace between the Kings of Aragon and Castile.

The 'Livro de Linhagens' mentions that he became Prior at 18 years of age, and this occurred in 1336, therefore he could have been born around 1318.
He died in 1380 and was buried in Flor da Rosa (Alentejo), a fortified monastery he used as residence, adjacent to a church.
Father of Nuno Álvares Pereira. The Livro de Linhagens mentions he had 32 sons and daughters.

Is sent by King Pedro of Portugal on a diplomatic mission with Dom João Gomes de Chaves, Bishop of Évora, to sign a treaty of friendship with Enrique II of Castile (1366).
He was especially close to the half-brother of King Fernando, the Infante D. João (son of Inês de Castro), whose cause he promoted at several crucial moments in the decade of 1370s.
