union: http://www.geni.com/tr8n/phrases/view?translation_key_id=229782

Just looking for some clarification. We've got a "marriage" revision history story, no problemos there. But, is the "union" RHS also to be considered in relation to marriage or rather as pointing towards the "unmarried couple who formed a partnerhip" situation? Or perhaps some entirely different merge-like functionality / curator-behind-the-scenes-stuff that is unknown to me?

Live long and prosper.

In Norwegian it is translated to the word for same-sex marriages.

Brox, do you know in what phases this is used? I looked all over for it.

We have to ask Oddbjørn Olsen] who did that translation.

3/7/2011 at 2:40 AM

I took an "assume" (=educated guess) that the context was "unmarried partnership".

Why did you add me here?

You just added yourself.

I got this message....and since I am new to this "family tree" I am not sure if your are refering to something I added. If it is who are you refering to? There is one member of my family that had children but did not get married to the father. So I posted it as a partner. That was Lisa Timm.

Also, I am afraid to add something that may be wrong. Some of my notes about my relatives are from my mom and grandmother and I may not have the right information. If I am wrong, please correct me. Thanks.

This thread is purely aimed at the translators of Geni and in extension people who follow the Translators Project:

Translator Project Discussions: http://www.geni.com/discussions?discussion_type=project-223

If you for some reason have received an e-mail notification in regards to this discussion and you are not actually following the Translators Project, chances are it's a bug / technical malfunction. Simply click "Unfollow" at the top of this page.

Best regards to everyone!

Mike Stangel - I wonder if the notification error we suspected for a month ago is back?

Kalev Undritz and Kalev Undritz, - what made you reply to this thread?
Did yoy get an email pointing to this thread?

Why did you write me?

I just want to know what made you post your first message, - I have seen this before, someone just jumps into a "well hidden" discussion as if they was directed to that discussion somehow, so I try to find out if there can be an error in Geni.

I don't see evidence of a bug. According to our logs, Mr. Undrits clicked 'Follow' on the Translators project on 2011-03-05. This discussion is connected to that project, so he and all followers are notified of new discussion messages here.

If anything I think the bug is that it's not easy to tell when discussion threads are connected to a project.

OK, we got an explanation, and I was correct: You added yourself.

I assume that Alene Jude Backis and Private User jumped the discussion of the same reason.

Yeah, people seems to be joining the project without understanding its purpose.

I really think there is a problem in the notification system. I've just received in my mailbox a notification for an update for this discussion, while I've never subscribed to it ...
Does someone in the development team of Geni aware of this problem? Where do I submit a bug report, and in this case, where?

Private User
3/8/2011 at 5:16 AM

Two such cases:
* If you are following a project you will be notified about new project discussions
* If you are following or a manager of a profile that is linked to in a discussion you will be notified about that.

In any case: All notifications include clear instructions on how to stop such notifications.

Yes, I know that.
But, I'm following this project for a time now, and I have never received any notification for new project discussion in my mailbox. This is the first time and from what I've read before, I'm not alone. So, is it a new feature or is it a bug ?

3/8/2011 at 7:13 AM

We recently replaced individual discussion notifications with a daily digest -- perhaps all users were subscribed to the digest without checking their previous subscription settings. I'm checking with the team on that.

Back to the original topic: In the API they have a union definition: http://dev.geni.com/api-reference/union.html

3/12/2011 at 7:19 AM

We tend to use union and marriage interchangeably, however union is used for all types of partnerships you see on the Edit Relationships tab, whereas some uses of "marriage" are restricted tosppuse and ex-suppose unions (marriage events being one of them; there is no marriage event for partner, ex-partner or fiancé unions)

3/12/2011 at 7:21 AM

"tosppuse" was supposed to be "to spouse", similarly "ex-spouse" (lousy iPad :)

3/12/2011 at 8:59 AM

So for translation we shall use Union = Partnership (any kind and any time)?
It will generate problems as not in all languages such global and common partnership definition exists...

3/12/2011 at 9:46 AM

We don't typically write sentences that require the generic use of the term "union" -- if you find translations that are particularly problematic, let us know and we may be able to re-word the English sentence.

Some of my addition about my relatives are from my family members and I may not have the right information. If I am wrong. what can Ido to correct it. thanks

Baker Radi Zagha This question is probably better handled through the generic help pages (choose the Help option (found at the bottom of each page)). In general; If you have been able to add information to a profile, you should also be able to change/correct it (assuming that the person mentioned on the profile hasn't taken control of the it him-/herself and put tight controls on it).

edges: http://www.geni.com/tr8n/phrases/view?translation_key_id=230011

Another RHS. Could anyone perhaps point out a revision history story where the usage of this phrase is viewable in action?

3/17/2011 at 10:41 AM

"edge" is technical jargon and should not appear anywhere on our site. If anyone finds it, let me know and we'll reword it.
